Health Requirements for Boarding at the Hotel

All owners who have boarded their cat in a hotel or cat boarding facility have met with requirements from the hotel staff regarding certain health conditions. What are these requirements?

🌿 Health conditions for boarding at the hotel – We protect your cat and their friends at MauHotel.

MauHotel, like all reputable cat hotels and boarding facilities, requires cat owners who have booked a stay for their feline to always bring the cat’s health booklet at check-in. This booklet will remain at the hotel for the entire duration of the stay.
Why is this required?

  1. It helps us verify the latest vaccinations and dewormings, which must be recorded in the health booklet.
  2. Hotels are facilities that should have certain authorizations and are therefore subject to inspections by authorities. The health booklet must be available to verify that the boarding requirements for visiting cats are met.
  3. Last but not least, in the event of a medical emergency for a cat staying at the hotel, the hotel staff and veterinarian need access to the health booklet to check the medical history or record administered procedures and medications.

All cats leaving their usual environment – especially when entering a community – need their immunity to be active, so they neither contract nor transmit certain diseases or parasites.

So, which conditions must be strictly followed?

🐾 Vaccination:
For kittens, the vaccination schedule must be complete to allow them to stay at a hotel.
A complete schedule means: the first vaccine (given starting at 8 weeks old) + booster or second vaccine + rabies vaccine.
Full immunity develops 21 days after the second vaccine.
Vaccines are then repeated annually.

Kittens older than 1 year must have a valid annual vaccine administered at least 10–14 days before boarding, so their immunity is active upon arrival. Additionally, the vaccine’s validity must cover the entire stay to ensure full protection. If the vaccine was administered some time ago, check its expiration date in the health booklet, and if it does not cover the whole stay, schedule a visit to the vet before the vacation.

🐛 Internal and external deworming – both mandatory:
The cat must be dewormed recently, but at least 48 hours before boarding, as the products take full effect within 24–48 hours.

Deworming must remain effective until the last day of the stay to ensure full protection throughout the stay. Note: the duration of effectiveness depends on the active ingredient, generally 30 days for external and up to 3 months for internal deworming.

💉 Other conditions:
Cats (females or males) must be sterilized if over 10 months old.
Claws must be trimmed for safety and comfort.
Cats must be in good health, free of contagious diseases, and not require complex medical treatments (IVs, injectable treatments, oxygen, continuous monitoring, etc.).
